ABOUT ME
My name is Stephanie Bishop. I graduated from Illinois State University in May 2013 and have obtained my degree in Secondary Mathematics Education with a Middle School endorsement. I have a strong Mathematics background having completed upper level Mathematics courses at ISU. I have a passion for Mathematics and cannot wait to share this passion with the world.
My goal in life is to help others succeed. My particular interest as an educator is to prepare youth to compete in this ever-changing global society. I want my students to strive to become life-long learners and enjoy their experiences as a student. To achieve my goal as an educator I aim to create a positive learning environment in which my students can develop into a well-rounded citizen of society.
Throughout my educational experience I have volunteered at University High School in which I tutored one student in Algebra Two and one student in AP Calculus. I have also volunteered for an after-school program at the Unity Community Center in Normal, Illinois. The past few summers I was a camp counselor for the Buffalo Grove Park District. This camp allowed Middle School students the chance to take daily field trips around the Chicago-land area. This opportunity gave me experience outside of my content level but was deemed very beneficial for my educational experience.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been lucky enough to experience multiple positions in a variety of school districts through out my short time as a certified teacher. I started the fall of 2013 semester off at Lake Park High School in Roselle, IL. I was an aide in a credit recovery class where I monitored student progress, tutored individual students in Mathematics, and assisted the classroom teacher. After a month at Lake Park I moved directly to Vernon Hills High School in Vernon Hills, IL to which I took over the responsibilities for two Algebra 2 classes and two Algebra 1.5 classes. I loved connecting with the students, teaching in my own classroom, adapting to a co-taught environment for Algebra 1.5 and enhancing students' understanding of Mathematics. It was extremely tough to leave them at the end of the semester when my maternity substitute position was over. I then traveled to Grayslake North High School in Grayslake, IL to become a military substitute, then a maternity substitute, as well as an ACT Prep class instructor. I was then selected to continue at Grayslake North fulfilling a one-year leave position. In the fall of 2015, I decided to make the move to central Illinois and I became an Eagle at Rantoul Township High School in Rantoul, IL. I am so lucky for that every day I can say that I know I chose the right profession and I love my job.
STUDENT TEACHING EXPERIENCE
In the spring of 2013, I was given the honor of student teaching at East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, Illinois. I taught three sections of Honors Geometry and one section of Algebra Block. My Algebra class had students who were in need of a remedial mathematics course and the curriculum was aligned with the program, Agile Mind. My student teaching experience gave me the opportunity to try new styles and techniques and determine what works best for me. I have also gained much experience with technology by being in a 1-1 computer setting in all of my classes.
EDUCATION
I graduated from Illinois State University in May 2013. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Secondary Mathematics Education with a Middle School Endorsement. I made the Dean's List for three semesters during my college career and I graduated apart of the Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Education Fraternity, Rho Lambda: National sorority leadership society and Order of Omega: Leadership society for Greek organization members. Throughout my educational career I was apart of the Illinois State Student Education Association and Delta Delta Delta Women's Fraternity.
CERTIFICATION
I currently hold an Illinois Type 09 initial teaching certificate.
HOBBIES AND INTERESTS
While I am not working, I love to read mystery novels, James Patterson is my favorite author, and watch crime shows. I also have intense Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy competitions with my boyfriend. I love to take walks and run around with my dog, Cali! When I have the time, I love to watch the Cubs and travel to Ohio to visit my grandpa.
